Discuss the Various Attitudes to Marriage and Courtship That Jane Austen Presents in ââ¬ËPride and Prejudiceââ¬â¢ free essay sample
Talk about the Various Attitudes to Marriage and Courtship that Jane Austen presents in ââ¬ËPride and Prejudiceââ¬â¢ In Jane Austenââ¬â¢s book ââ¬ËPride and Prejudiceââ¬â¢ she shows different mentalities of marriage and romance through each character. A portion of these mentalities to marriage and romance are totally different to the perspectives of the vast majority today. This book is for the most part about marriage so it is simple and intriguing to analyze the assessments of marriage from the mid nineteenth century to life now. Jane Austen makes reference to marriage just because, in Pride and Prejudice, in the absolute first sentence: It is a fact all around recognized, that a solitary man possessing a favorable luck, must be in need of a spouse. (Section 1, page 51) This is potentially the most significant statement in the book since it establishes the pace for the remainder of the novel and it is the place we initially find that the book is in reality about marriage. Marriage was to a greater degree a business course of action at that point. For young ladies it was significant, especially for the Bennets, that you wedded a man who was as rich as could be expected under the circumstances. The measure of cash that men had and the way of life dependent on that sum had a significant impact in the choice of who to wed. How much love had an influence in the condition was significantly littler than how much the cash did. Mrs Bennet, all through the book, we can see is an uproarious, inconsiderate lady. Her character could be portrayed similar to an exaggeration. We initially know about Mr Charles Bingley when Mrs Bennet is revealing to her significant other, Mr Bennet, about him. We donââ¬â¢t find out a lot about him other than the way that he is well off and he is in the zone. Mr Bennet asks now to Mrs Bennet in the event that he is hitched or single. She answers: ââ¬Å"Oh! single, my dear, no doubt! A solitary man of huge fortune; four or 5,000 every year. What a fine thing for our young ladies! (Section 1, page 51) From what Mrs Bennet says we can immediately observe that she is extremely energized at the updates on Mr Bingley being in the territory. All that she has heard is that he is rich and single and she is as of now envisioning him wedding one of her girls: ââ¬Å"You must realize that I am thinking about his wedding one of them. â⬠(Chapter 1, page 51) We can see that Mrs Bennetââ¬â¢s fundamental point is to have her little girls wedded to rich men on the grounds that while she is attempting to educate Mr Bennet regarding, as she would see it, extraordinary news that Mr Bingley has recently shown up into the zone, Mr Bennet shows no premium, which shakes her further. Mr. Bennet, how might you misuse your own youngsters in such a manner? You take get a kick out of vexing me. You have no empathy for my poor nerves. â⬠(Chapter 1, page 52) Elizabeth, nonetheless, has various perspectives to marriage contrasted with her mom. Her assessments of marriage are a lot of like the assessments of most ladies today. Obviously she considers how much cash she would have because of the marriage however having a rich spouse isn't all she considers in the choice of marriage. For Elizabeth love must be incorporated with the marriage regardless of how well off the spous e would be. This is the reason she denies two propositions to be engaged from Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy and Mr Collins later in the book, on the grounds that â⬠albeit tolerating either marriage would monetarily improve her way of life â⬠she doesn't adore either man. Obviously later in the book she changes her psyche and become hopelessly enamored with Mr Darcy. She shows this with different changes of her character and assessment of him all through the book and later acknowledges Darcyââ¬â¢s second proposition to be engaged. This book was set to be in the late eighteenth century at which parties were especially significant. Balls and melodic nighttimes were viewed similar to the focal point of public activity. These social events were incredible chances to discover an accomplice. Jane Bennet initially met Mr Bingley at a ball in Meryton. (They later wed). At a similar town ball Elizabeth Bennet initially met Mr Darcy as well. (They likewise wed later in the novel). Now in the novel, in any case, Elizabeth doesn't adore or even like Mr Darcy. Elizabeth stayed with no warm sentiments towards him. (Section 3, page 59) This was cited soon after Elizabeth caught Mr Darcy and Mr Bingley talking at the ball. Mr Bingley was attempting to convince Mr Darcy to hit the dance floor with someone and recommended explicitly for him to hit the dance floor with Elizabeth. He, in any case, didn't feel that she was sufficient for him: ââ¬Å"She is middle of the road; yet not attractive enough to entice me;â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Chapter 3, page 59) This means Mr Darcy doesn't acknowledge ladies that are of a much lower class than him. He would prefer not wed a poor lady. Lamentably for him he goes gaga for Elizabeth later. During section seven Jane Bennet gets a letter from Caroline Bingley welcoming Miss Bennet out somewhere else. In the late eighteenth century ladies were sensitive in contrast with ladies today. They were sensitive in that, for instance, in the event that they were in the warmth for a really long time they would feel headachy or black out. Mrs Bennet clearly knew this since, when Jane requested the carriage, Mrs Bennet intentionally said no: ââ¬Å"No, my dear, you would do well to go riding a horse, since it appears to probably rain; and afterward you should remain throughout the night. â⬠(Chapter 7, page 77) This statement demonstrates the point that women during this time needed just to have their girls hitched, Mrs Bennet specifically. She is happy to hazard her daughterââ¬â¢s wellbeing and really needs her little girl to feel sick so she can remain the night at Mr Bingleyââ¬â¢s house as opposed to simply go out for lunch. It shows how far Mrs Bennet is happy to drive her girls into the way of appropriate men so as to make sure about a decent marriage. Later in the part, when we discover that Jane in reality has to remain the night because of feeling sick, Elizabeth chooses to visit her however expects on strolling to Mr Bingleyââ¬â¢s house as opposed to utilizing the carriage. Mrs Bennet guarantees that it is a silly thought and won't be fit to be seen when she shows up. Elizabeth answers: I will be fit to see Jane â⬠which is all I need. â⬠(Chapter 7, page 78) This statement underpins the way that Elizabeth has no expectation of attempting to intrigue the Bingleys or Mr Darcy by the manner in which she looks. The assessments of her are exceptionally present day as far as marriage so she doesn't generally think about what she resembles. Mrs Hurst and Miss Bingley both consider Elizabeth very appalling now. It brought them incredible stun when she showed up in her ââ¬Ëdirty stockingsââ¬â¢ (Chapter 7, page 79). At the point when Elizabeth goes to go keep an eye on Jane after supper Mrs Hurst and Miss Bingley canââ¬â¢t help yet ââ¬Ëabuse herââ¬â¢ (Chapter 8, page 81) when she leaves. Mrs Hurst says: ââ¬Å"I will always remember her appearance at the beginning of today. She looked practically wild. â⬠(Chapter 8, page 81) The complexity of assessments of Elizabeth and Mrs Hurst and Miss Bingley again shows the amount progressively present day Elizabeth is contrasted with each other woman in the novel. We before long meet Mr Collins. Jane Austen has composed Mr Collins to have an extremely overstated character or character of self-satisfied vainglory making him, similar to Mrs Bennet another personification. During part 19 he proposes to Elizabeth: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦I singled you out as the friend of my future life. Be that as it may, before I am fled with by my affections for this subject, maybe it will be prudent for me to state explanations behind wedding - â⬠(Chapter 19, page 147) Mr Collins keeps on talking about why he has decided to propose. He guarantees that the congregation says it is a smart thought to get hitched so he would basically be setting a model for others. He additionally asserts that it would bring him joy and that Catherine de Bourgh, his supporter, wants for him to be hitched moreover. He at that point proceeds to state what might happen when they were to be hitched. Elizabeth interferes with him: ââ¬Å"You are excessively hurried, Sir, ââ¬Å" she cried. You overlook that I have made no answer. (Part 19, page 148) Indeed, Elizabeth is correct. Mr Collins has not trusted that Elizabeth will even consent to the marriage yet is now alluding to what he predicts will occur later on when they probably get hitched. He does this since he anticipates that her should acknow ledge the proposition to be engaged. The possibility of Elizabeth dismissing Mr Collinsââ¬â¢ engagement proposition was strange to him. If Elizabeth somehow managed to acknowledge the proposition then she would have a superior life monetarily so in that time there was not a lot of explanation behind her to dismiss the proposition. At the point when she rejects the proposition he doesnââ¬â¢t appear to trust it, proclaiming: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦it is normal with youngsters to dismiss the addresses of the man whom they subtly mean to acknowledge, when he initially applies for their favourâ⬠¦ some of the time the refusal is rehashed a second or even a third time. â⬠(Chapter 19, page 148) He unmistakably feels that all ladies at first deny a proposition so as not to show up excessively anxious or too edgy to even think about getting hitched when in truth that is their goal from the start. This is the reason he proceeds to communicate his certainty that he will in the end lead her to the special raised area. Elizabeth again decays the proposition yet Mr Collins won't have it. He again expresses his conviction of ladies not having any desire to sound excessively energetic by tolerating a proposition. Elizabeth again decays the proposal before Mr Collins attempts to convince her to wed him. Jane Austen appears by this, how ladies were required to acknowledge recommendations on the off chance that it would monetarily improve their life. Jane Austen likewise shows how the modernisation of the character Elizabeth influences different characters, for example, Mr Collins and his skepticism of her dismissal. A couple of days after this Mr Collins proposes to Charlotte Lucas. For this second, the importance of the main sentence of the novel appears to be solid. Not at all like Elizabeth she acknowledges the proposition. The perspectives on this between Mrs Bennet, Charlotte Lucas and Elizabeth Bennet are for the most part very

Of course, for different amounts, these numbers change, so it is important to find the perfect balance when you use both chia and flax seeds. One thing to notice from this table of comparisons is that both chia and flax seeds contain a very good amount of nutrients, which is very useful for your health. As for the most important acids, Omega-3, and Omega-6 acids, both chia and flax seeds do nicely, with the addition that flax seeds have a slight advantage by providing a bit more of them.We can also note that flax seeds contain a bit more of some specific minerals, like copper, thiamine, as well as potassium. On the other hand, chia seeds contain more minerals that are used for strengthening our bones and related bone material.Of course, we are talking about calcium and phosphorus.Apart from that, chia seeds have a significantly higher value on carbs and fiber, and also has a bit higher value on iron and zinc. So, the conclusion is, that if you require more vitamins and minerals that are used for strengthening the bones and fiber, you should probably use chia seeds. On the other hand, if your body requires a higher amount of fat, you should consider using flax seed.WHY ARE CHIA AND FLAX SEEDS USEFUL?There are a fair amount of potential positive effects of using the chia or flax seeds. They can be very useful when it comes to keeping your health level on a high note. That is why a lot of doctors recommend using these seeds, not only when people are sick, but also as a type of prevention. If you are a person who doesnât have any specific health issue but still wants to protect yourself from the potential diseases, you could use chia and flax seeds without a problem. That way you will strengthen your immune system and get some really appropriate protection against a wide range of illnesses, as doctor Sten Ekberg says in his video. That is why we have decided to list some of the most important positive effects that chia and flax seeds can produce if you use them correctly. So strap in and letâs begin!1. Chia and Flax Seeds Lower Heart Disease RiskWe all know how important it is to have a healthy and strong heart.A lot of people die each year because of heart problems, which is one of the main reasons we tend to find some ways to protect the health of our heart and try to prevent some serious heart illnesses to happen. One of the ways this could be done is by regularly using chia or flax seeds. Why exactly is that?Letâs find out!As previously mentioned, both chia and flax seeds contain a large amount of both omega-3 and omega-6 acids. Why is that important now, you may ask?Well, it is because one specific type of acid, called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is ba sed on the omega-3 fatty acid.A couple of studies were conducted and it was debated whether ALA has some positive effect when it comes to the protection against cardiovascular illnesses. The results showed that ALA has been responsible for the decrease in risk related to cardiovascular problems by 14%.In some other study conducted in Costa Rica, on a sample of around 3.700 people, it was tested what is the influence of ALA when it comes to the prevention of heart attacks. The results showed that people who were regularly using products that contain ALA as prevention actually managed to reduce the risk of getting a heart attack by 39%, which is a considerable amount, to be fair.People who were regularly getting around 2 grams of ALA were the ones with the lowest risk of heart attack.Other two big issues related to a heart attack are blood pressure level and cholesterol level. They are usually very important indicators if there is any problem with heart and if those levels are actually h igh, the risk of getting a heart attack also increases. When it comes to blood pressure, both types of seed have a similar effect, with the addition that flax seeds have a slight advantage and decrease the blood pressure a bit more.By using around 30-35 g of either chia or flax seeds on a daily basis, you may lower your blood pressure by 3-10 mm Hg.Apart from that, we have mentioned the cholesterol level. When it comes to that, the results are pretty inconclusive for the effects of chia seeds. There were a couple of studies conducted on this topic, but none of them showed any positive effects regarding the decrease of the blood pressure. But since chia seed offers just slightly less amount of ALA, the studies might be wrong, but thatâs yet to be tested. On the other hand, studies have shown that flax seed has a positive effect on reducing blood pressure. The results were clear. If you incorporate flax seeds in your regular diet, you may reduce your bad cholesterol levels by 18%.Despite chia and flax seeds may be useful in this regard, they should be used with caution and in right amount because they have one slightly negative effect. Both chia and flax seeds can cause blood thinning, which is why you should always consult your doctor before starting to use them.2. Chia and Flax Seeds Lower Blood SugarAnother very spread out problem a lot of people in the world have is diabetes.Studies have shown that diabetes and obesity are the two most common health issues that havenât been put under control even to this date. How could chia and flax seeds help us prevent or just reduce the risk of getting diabetes?Chia and flax seeds have a large percentage of fiber, and the fiber is related to some studies whose results showed that it can reduce the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.Fiber does this by balancing the speed of getting the sugar into our body. It tends to slow down the digestion of carbs and the blood absorption of sugar. All of this produces a positive effect where the amount of sugar that enters the blood system is balanced and is absorbed gradually. What that really means is that fiber has the role to prevent large spikes of blood sugar and to keep it stabilized in order to protect your system from getting a type 2 diabetes.Apart from just having a preventing task, chia and flax seeds could also be used by people who already have diabetes. Some studies show that if people who have diabetes and use around 2 tablespoons of flax seed on a daily bases could stabilize their blood sugar levels and reduce its increase by 8-20% after doing it for approximately two months.Studies done with chia seeds gave similar results.Chia seeds could be used to also stabilize sugar level in your blood and to lower the resistance your body shows against insulin. Now, if you donât want to experiment with using chia seeds in your everyday meals, you could just eat the bread rich with chia seeds instead. It is proven to be more effective than some traditional food res ponsible for maintaining blood sugar level, like wheat bran, which is also used for decreasing and maintaining a normal level of hemoglobin A1C, which is very important when it comes to maintaining the required blood sugar level.3. Flax vs CancerApart from chia and flax seeds being useful when it comes to preventing heart disease and maintaining normal blood sugar level, they are known to be effective as a protection against some types of cancers, which is a very important feature. As mentioned above, both chia and flax seeds contain a lot of fiber, which is, apart from being useful for issues we have already mentioned, also considered as a nutrient that can reduce the risk of getting cancer, more specifically, a colon or breast cancer.Molecules that can damage cells and cause aging and lowering our systemâs defenses, thus opening the door for a large number of illnesses to enter, are called free radicals.Their number can be decreased by using antioxidants. You may wonder why are w e mentioning this now?Well, it is simple, both chia and flax seeds contain a certain amount of antioxidants, thus both being useful in this regard. When it comes to the antioxidants level, that is where flax seeds shine. They have around 15 times higher level of very specific antioxidant, used for fighting cancers, called lignans. That does not mean chia seed is useless in this regard. It just means that flax is better when it comes to fighting against cancer.A study has shown that everyday use of flax seeds may reduce the risk of getting certain types of cancer, like breast cancer, for example.Another review, conducted with around 6.000 women, gave the same result, where the risk of getting breast cancer was reduced by 18%.Men, do not worry, flax seed could help not just women, but you as well! One study showed that men who were using around 30g of flax seeds on a daily basis had reduced markers for prostate cancer.Of course, it means that the risk of getting a prostate cancer could be a bit lower, than with the men who do not use flax seed as prevention.Despite chia seeds have a lower amount of antioxidants, they are still useful in fighting cancer, just not in the same amount as flax seeds. It means that if you are looking for a certain type of anti-cancer food, you could still use both flax and chia seeds, combine both in different amounts and try to find the perfect food combination, see which seed goes well with certain type of food and then you could make both healthy and tasty meal, which could potentially lower the risk of getting certain types of cancer.4. Flax vs HungerAnother very good characteristic of fiber is that it is responsible for maintaining a normal level of appetite, as well as reducing the lust for food.More specifically, we are talking about a soluble fiber here.Soluble fiber does its job when it is mixed with water. When it is in that state, it becomes kind of sticky and makes us feel like we are not hungry for a longer time than usual, th us controlling our appetite level. And it does that by triggering a specific type of hormones, whose main task is to balance our appetite and control the feeling of being hungry.Again, the same as with antioxidants, the flax seed is a bit more effective in this regard as well. It contains around 40% of the soluble fiber, compared to only 5% found in chia seed.So people, if you want to get thinner faster, use flax seed.Studies were conducted about the effects of flax seeds on hunger and thirstiness.Experimental group got food and drink, both containing around 30g of flax seeds and the results showed that they were less hungry and thirsty afterward than the people from the control group, who werenât given the food and drink that contained the flax seeds. As for chia seeds, a study was conducted where people got bread with different amount of chia seeds. The results showed that people who got the bread with more chia seeds were generally less hungry afterward than those who got the food with fewer chia seeds. There werenât too many studies that compared both chia and flax seeds in the regard of reducing the appetite, so the conclusion is that both contribute to the decrease of appetite and control of hunger, with the addition that flax seeds are probably a bit more effective, due to the higher amount of soluble fiber.5. Improved DigestionA healthy body requires a good digestive system. It helps us process all the food and other materials we use, by keeping the good ones and removing the bad ones.If the digestion system doesnât work properly, we may experience some unpleasant situations and side effects, like constipation and diarrhea.Thatâs why it is very important to keep our digestive system healthy and both chia and flax seeds could help us with that. Both seeds contain some amount of fiber, which can be divided into two different types of fiber: soluble and insoluble fiber. We have already explained what soluble fiber is, that it helps us reduce the feeling of being hungry or thirsty.Insoluble fiber has the opposite effect, we can say it acts like a laxative and helps with digestion problems. Therefore, it is really important to have a nice balance of both soluble and insoluble fiber, as disbalance of those could create some issues like constipation or diarrhea.HOW TO EAT CHIA AND FLAX SEEDS?Now, for the ways to eat chia and flax seeds, there isnât really much to say about it.They can be used very easily with almost any type of food, due to their structure and taste. That means you can experiment and create a perfect combination of food you like and enjoy. For example, if you like pudding as I do, you could check out this video and make your own healthy pudding with chia and flax seeds. This ability to experiment allows you to make some tasty and healthy snacks, that you can bring to work or school. If you are looking for a perfect quantity to use, well, it all depends on how much you actually eat during the day.The general opinion is th at you should use around 10-20g of chia or flax seeds on a daily basis, so you can use that number as guidance. As for the question of whether to eat them whole or crushed, it really depends on your needs and the meals you are using them with.Generally, flax seeds are bigger and thicker than chia seeds, so they are usually used crushed, so you would be able to get all the nutrients out of them in an easier way. When we talk about chia seeds, we can say that they are generally consumed whole, but if you crush them, you can get a bit higher amount of nutrients out of them. And lastly, the way you should keep them is very important, in order for them not to become rancid. That said, you should keep both chia and flax seed in a fridge or a freezer, so they would stay fresh and tasty whenever you need to use them.FINAL WORDThatâs all folks! We have gone over the benefits of using chia and flax seeds in your regular diet.We have seen that they are very useful when it comes to keeping our bo dy healthy and that they could prevent some serious diseases, like cancer or diabetes. They are generally very easy to use and are easily mixed with any type of food, which means that you donât have to withhold from eating the food you like. You just need to create a habit of using them, in order to keep your body healthy and strong throughout all the life circumstances.

Libertarianism and Redistribution of Wealth Free Essays
The libertarian claim that any money gained though employment or business is none that they are fully entitled to is false, therefore the claim that the redistribution of that wealth through taxation Is a form of theft Is also false based on the grounds that no one fully owns all of their wealth. The reason that no one fully owns all of their wealth is that we live in a society where many aspects of our economy that contribute to the generation of wealth are paid for by society as a whole. An example of this is a child who goes to school. We will write a custom essay sample on Libertarianism and Redistribution of Wealth or any similar topic only for you Order Now This child will graduate knowing how to read, write, do math, use computers, etcetera. These are all skills required both for them to have Income and for future employers o profit from. These skills allow employers to hire them knowing that they can have a basic level of expectation of this child, and even If they are not employed, business owners can also assume a basic level of expectation in the ability to use the products being sold. To clarify, letââ¬â¢s look at an example using Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world. Bill Gates would never have become wealthy if he did not have the basic expectation that the majority of people in America had the education and knowledge to use computers. He did not pay for this knowledge, society as a whole did. The fact that society Is responsible for educating our people to the basic level required for the use of Bill Gatesââ¬â¢ products Is the reason why Bill Gates does not fully own all of his wealth. Again, to own something is to assume that you are fully Bill Gates owes part of his wealth to society for the education it provided which allows us to use computers. Another reason why people do not completely own all of their wealth Is that we all owe something to the government who protects our wealth and our ability to gain wealth. The government provides security from outside influence in the world, laws which govern our business practices to protect us from each other, and allows the environment in which we are able to perform business. Because of these reasons we all owe the government because we are able to take advantage of the system that our government has provided. Since the wealthy are able to take a much greater advantage of this system, It Is natural to assume that the wealthy also owe more to the government than do the poorer and middle class citizens. The fact Is that we live in a society in which we are not paid for the labor we do or for the product in which we provide to society as a whole. Instead we are paid based on how well we are able to take advantage of the systems in place. This system allows for unfair advantages for some and the only way to balance out those unfair advantages is through taxation. As I nave calmer Deter, ten wangle purpose AT taxation In ten TLS place Is as a Tort of redistribution of wealth. Services need to be paid for and the government must have money in order to run. Taxation allows the government to redistribute wealth in a fashion which should be fair (though many times is far from fair) in order to provide the necessary services for our country to prosper. If our country has too large of a gap between the wealthy and the poor it also looses the ability create new wealth. What I mean is this. The wealthy are able to create wealth by taking advantage of the poor and middle classes. This is not always a bad thing however. Since the poor and middle class make up the vast majority of the countriesââ¬â¢ population, it is also them who purchase, manufacture, and provide the majority of the products and services offered by the wealthy. The wealthy are able to make money because the rest of the countriesââ¬â¢ citizens spend money. If these citizens have o money to spend there is no money for the wealthy to make and they must begin to look outside of our country for that wealth. Again, this comes down to the advantages provided by our government which allow for overseas trade and the import and export of goods and services. If the wealthy are to take advantage of foreign trade, they again owe extra to the government, and society as a whole, for the advantage which is provided to them. In the end however, it is simply a good idea to redistribute wealth back to the poorer in our country in order to provide all citizens at the very least an opportunity to get some of that wealth back from them. Our economy is a never ending circle of exchanges in which the most affluent are able to take the greatest advantage, thus owing the most back to their government and society. I do agree that people have a right to their own property (as long as it was obtained honestly), however, how much property does one really need and to what extent do they really own it. There must be a point at which a certain amount of wealth is too much. How many of the richest people in the world will ever be able to spend all of their money? It is basically for this reason that I am against the views hat it should not be the governmentââ¬â¢s responsibility to use taxation as a way to redistribute income. This is in fact the sole reason for taxation in the first place and the reason why the rich pay a higher amount of tax than the poor. This higher taxation is especially necessary in a society such as ours where the average CEO make something along the lines of 400-500 times as much as the average worker (much higher than any other country in the world). I see no reason why we canââ¬â¢t increase taxes on the richest in order to fulfill our obligation to the poor, not only at home but across the world. Metamorphosis of Narcissus free essay sample
This painting is Dalis interpretation of the Greek myth of Narcissus. Narcissus was a youth of great beauty who loved only himself and broke the hearts of many lovers. The gods punished him by letting him see his own reflection in a pool. He fell in love with it, but discovered he could not embrace it and died of frustration. Relenting, the gods immortalised him as the narcissus (daffodil) flower. For this picture Dali used a meticulous technique which he described as hand-painted colour photography to depict with hallucinatory effect the transformation of Narcissus, kneeling in the pool, into the hand holding the egg and flower. Narcissus as he was before his transformation is seen posing in the background. The play with double images sprang from Dalis fascination with hallucination and delusion. This was Dalis first painting to be made entirely in accordance with the paranoiac critical method, which the artist described as a Spontaneous method of irrational knowledge, based on the critical-interpretative association of the phenomena of delirium (The Conquest of the Irrational, published in The Secret Life of Salvador Dali, New York 1942). We will write a custom essay sample on Metamorphosis of Narcissus or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Robert Descharnes noted that this painting meant a great deal to Dali, as it was the first Surrealist work to offer a consistent interpretation of an irrational subject. The artist said to Descharnes of this picture: A painting shown and explained to Dr. Freud. Pedagogical presentation of the myth of narcissism, illustrated by a poem written at the same time. In this poem and this painting, there is death and fossilization of Narcissus. The poem to which Dali referred was published in 1937, in a small book by the artist entitled Metamorphosis of Narcissus. The book also contains two explanatory notes printed facing a colour reproduction of the painting, the first of which reads: WAY OF VISUALLY OBSERVING THE COURSE OF THE METAMORPHOSIS OF NARCISSUS REPRESENTED IN THE PRINT ON THE OPPOSITE PAGE: If one looks for some time, from a slight distance and with a certain distant fixedness, at the hypnotically immobile figure of Narcissus, it gradually disappears until at last it is completely invisible. The metamorphosis of the myth takes place at that precise moment, for the image of Narcissus is suddenly transformed into the image of a hand which ises out of his own reflection. At the tips of its fingers the hand is holding an egg, a seed, a bulb from which will be born the new narcissus the flower. Beside it can be seen the limestone sculpture of the hand the fossil hand of the water holding the blown flower. When he met Sigmund Freud in London in 1938, Dali took this picture with him as an example of his work, as well as a magazine conta ining an article he had written on paranoia. Freud wrote the following day to Stefan Zweig, who had introduced them, that it would be very interesting to explore analytically the growth of a picture like this.
